How Exercise Physiology Works. A Step-by-Step Guide.

So what is exercise physiology? It is best described as the science of using movement as a clinical tool to restore health and improve quality of life. This is not a generic fitness class: it is a structured, four-step pathway designed to bridge the gap between medical care and your long-term physical goals.

Step 1

Initial Consultation.

60 minutes

Your journey begins with a comprehensive, 60-minute foundation session at Club Lime Forrestdale. This is where we deep-dive into your story to ensure your path forward is both safe and effective.

During this session, we will complete:

Safety Screening: A thorough pre-exercise and medical screening to protect your health.

Clinical History: A detailed discussion regarding your lifestyle, injuries, and health history.

Baseline Testing: Functional capacity and physical function testing to see where you are starting.

Physical Assessment: Targeted assessments for strength, mobility, stability, and cardiovascular health.

Subjective Measures: Relevant questionnaires and outcome measures to track your internal progress.

Subjective Measures: Relevant questionnaires and outcome measures to track your internal progress.

By the end of this hour, you will have a personalised, evidence-based program tailored specifically to your current health and future goals.

Step 2

Exercise Physiology Sessions.

45–60 minutes

With your foundation set, we move into active rehabilitation and recovery. These in-person sessions at Club Lime Forrestdale are where the work happens, focusing on functional improvement in a supportive environment.

Each session includes:

Precision Coaching: Guided exercise and technique correction to ensure you are moving optimally.

Adaptive Programming: Real-time adjustments based on your individual needs and energy levels.

Symptom Management: Modifications that respect your body’s signals and flare-ups.

Education: Knowledge and support designed to build your confidence and physical independence.

Structured Tracking: Consistent monitoring of your progress throughout the session.

If appropriate, you may also receive a home-based program to reinforce your progress between our clinic visits.

Step 3

Progress Tracking & Reassessments.

True progress is measured, not guessed. Every 6 to 12 weeks, we pause to formally reassess your journey. These check-ins ensure your program remains effective and evolves as you get stronger.

These sessions typically involve:

Re-testing: Repeating your functional capacity, mobility, and strength tests to see measurable gains.

Symptom Review: Evaluating improvements in your physical symptoms and overall outcome measures.

Strategic Adjustments: Updating your program based on your results to keep you moving forward.

Step 4

Transition to Ongoing Fitness Support.

Once your clinical and rehabilitation goals are achieved, you have the option to transition from therapy into performance. For many, this means moving into 1:1 online coaching.

This transition is ideal for:

Maintaining Strength: Keeping the mobility and fitness gains you worked hard to achieve.

Structured Support: Continuing with expert exercise guidance without needing clinical rehabilitation.

Remote Tracking:Receiving ongoing support and accountability from anywhere.

While online coaching is not part of the clinical rehab process, it provides a seamless way to prevent recurring issues and cement lifelong exercise habits.
